Leigh,

It's so rewarding to see how much this project means to you and that you're working on building upon this wealth of experience.

I'd like to add that I have also learned a lot from your work on jokaydia. You've introduced me to permaculture design and challenged many of my assumptions about teaching and learning both in real life and virtual spaces. Your work has also inspired other educators:

“An engine for creativity” : jokaydia.com

Thank you for helping me inaugurate this project in such a meaningful way. I know that you've set the bar very high for the next Educator-in-Residence!

"....Anyway, I’m ranting as usual, and am probably entirely incohesive."

You sound lucid to me Leigh and your post here shows that you've progressed markedly from early perceptions of SL that I recall.

It's funny how things work.

Harold Jarche talks of when technology gets 'boring' and invisible as to when real innovations occur...when the hands on the console forget they are there and working.

Looks like you've become immersive.

Enjoy it all.

Thankyou Leigh - for sharing your time, energy and creativity as our first Educator-in-residence on jokaydia! Your project has started some fascinating discusisons amongst the community on jokaydia, and we couldn't have asked for a better way to kick off the virtual classroom project. I am really looking forward to the final inworld meetup to hear you speak more on your projects outcomes.

I am also really excited to hear that you will be continuing the exploration both IRL and in SL, and hope that our community can continue to support you to do so!

Oh.. and happy birthday!

Leigh, what you describe in this post is really networked learning at its purest. I understand what you say about the reality of working in the f2f world but that is exactly why the online world isn't just a replication of the non-digital. (Not that the two are easily separated anymore.) The networks connects the scattered nodes of interest together so that it harnesses and feeds your learning passions in a selfish (not in a negative sense) but extremely purposeful way. For you, it might be architectural design that is the hook. In my case, graphic design is what fascinates me and everytime someone like Dan Meyer announces a graphics based competition I'll be signing up regardless in my own watered version of your SL learning space design. But being an architect or a graphic designer is only one side of the coin and is probably the reason why you and I don't earn our salary doing either. We are also connecting for the purpose and the process of learning - that is also intrinsically rewarding in itself but not necessarily something that many of our f2f colleagues value in their everyday life.
